Cascade Alpine Guides is a premiere mountaineering guide service, locally owned and operated in the Pacific Northwest. We specialize in personalized alpine mountaineering and rock climbing instruction. We offer a variety of adventures and expeditions from Kayaking in Belize to Mount Rainier Summit Climbs.
Our Mission:
At Cascade Alpine Guides and Adventures, we believe that there is a place for everyone in the world’s wild places. From rock climbing a granite spire to backpacking around Mount Rainier, exploring the hidden canyons of the American Southwest to traveling on icy blue Cascade glaciers- we know that not all adventures are for everyone, but that there is an outdoor adventure that fits for each one of us.

Although some of our adventures are seasonal, Cascade Alpine Guides operate year-round. We hire full time staff , part time staff as well as independant contractors. Assistant Rock Climbing Instructor
Position Title: Assistant Rock Climbing Instructor:
Date: April 2005

General Functions:
Cascade Alpine Guides, the Pacific Northwest's premiere Guide Service is currently seeking to hire qualified assistant rock climbing instructors. Perform general and specialized instruction related to Indoor and Outdoor Rock Climbing. Provides support for special events. May perform duties of similar complexity in other areas as required or assigned.
Because of the small size of our staff, each employee is expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties as may be required from time to time. Appointment to the position begins as a probationary or trial service appointment, subject to termination At-Will during initial employment period of six (6) months. A written performance evaluation will be conducted within two(2) weeks of compleating the trial period. Upon successfull compleation of the trial service period will be granted a regular For Cause appointment. However, Cascade Alpine Guides maintains a zero-tolerance, imeadiate termination policy towards positive grug and alcohol test results for all employees.
Supervision:
Work under the supervision of the General Manager. Technical leadership provided by the Director of Programs.
Essental Job Functions:
1 - Assist lead in all areas of rock climbing.
2 - Ability to offer first aid when required.
3 - Assist clients with any questions or special concerns they may have. reguarding the programs they are taking.
4 - Perform other duties in other areas as assigned
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of:
1 - Knots
2 - Figure 8 family
3 - Two Loop Bowline
4 - Grapevine
5 - Ring Bend
6 - Belaying and the use of belay plates
7 - Rappelling and the use of figure 8 or belay plate
8 - Anchoring: able to comfortably utilize natural and artificial anchors (ie. stoppers, hexes, Tr--cams,
spring loaded camming devices) to create equalized and redundant anchor systems that have
minimal extension.
9 - Comfortable with use of cordellettes and runners.
Ability to:
1 - Get along with others and work as a member of a team.
2 - Interact with CAG Clients in an effective and customer friendly manor.
3 - Communicate information effectively verbally and in writing.
4 - Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
5 - Work Independantly without direct supervision.
6 - Schedule own time to perform duties and assignments.
7 - Make basic maintenance decisions in the field.
8 - Perform a variety of physical tasks and heavy lifting.
9 - Ability to climb comfortably on 5.6 - 7 terrain and to rappel over edges without coaching.
Minimum Qualifications:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities, required to perform the job. A typical way to obtain the skills and abilities would be to poses a high school diploma, or G.E.D. and have at least two(2) years experience as a rock climbing instructor or rock climbing guide. Possesion of an AMGA Top Rope Site Management Certificate or greater is desirable.
Tools & Equipment Used:
Equipment such as climbing harnesses, caribiners, slings, draws, daisy chains, climbing ropes, various belay devices, artificial anchor devices.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
There are certain physical demands required for this position. These include, but are not limited to; carrying numerous amounts of gear and equipment for moderate distances. Working conditions are generally outdoors and can sometimes be in adverse weather.
Special Requirements:
Possesion of a valid Washington State Drivers License, or ability to obtain one within 6 Months is required. Ability to obtain and maintain a current First Aid/CPR card. Ability to conform to drug and alcohol testing requirements under the federal Omnibus Transportation Testing Act of 1991. Applicants may be subject to pre-employment drug and alcohol tests and physical examinations. Proper documentation to fulfull the requirements of the Imigration and Nationality Act within three (3) days of employment is a condition of employment with Cascade Alpine Guides.
